My bike holds 8.7 gal. Largest tank I can source that stays under the 11.5 limit is 2.5 gal. At 35 mpg that would get me an additional 87.5 miles. I am going around and around if 87 extra miles justifies the trouble and expense... Also, I hate adding weight high on the bike. I run about 50% with dropping it during rallies. I can pick it up when conditions are favorable. But it will happen on a rainy, dark, muddy road - you know - not favorable... But I am equally sure that I will want that 87 miles at some point... Decided to order an auxiliary tank from BAM Mfg. Should arrive in time for the LDX.
Wasted a ton of time on a Summit racing tank that was a crucial .5 gallons larger than advertised. Current IBR attitude is that virtually no efforts to reduce tank volume will be allowed.
Thanks Paul, that's what I figured, just wanted to make sure. Don't really want to mount an aux tank, but an extra 1/2 gallon or so would have been nice for mistakes like I made in Hop's Rally. I know, don't make dumb decisions. ;)
No. Aux fuel tanks will comply with the standards as set forth in the IBR rules. A Google search should provide that information if you need it. If you have additional questions, feel free to email me at rm@ldxrally.com.

I've always felt an aux tank is a good investment but I know some people just hate to mess with it
